Ambassador David Dunford

A Webinar presented by Tucson Great Decisions

As we prepare to spend our 2021 discussion season looking forward to issues facing the new administration, we are bringing Ambassador Dunford  back to highlight some of the major foreign affairs challenges to the incoming administration in 2021.

David Dunford retired from the U.S. Foreign Service in June of 1995 following completion of his assignment as Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. He served from 1988-92 in Saudi Arabia as Deputy Ambassador, including 15 months as Acting Ambassador. Ambassador Dunford was an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Arizona from 1996 to 2016 where he taught courses on the Arab-Israeli Conflict, Middle East Business Environment and Globalization and Global Government. He is on the Governing Board of the University of Arizona’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies.

Dunford has written an important and timely book that shows why diplomacy still matters in an era of reduced budgets and insufficient understanding of just what diplomats do. His long and varied career in the Foreign Service is a testament to how the State Department can successfully contribute to making the US and the world more secure,  but only with proper resources and leadership.
